Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater, surrounded by mountains of the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands, is truly spectacular. This one-time volcano, now giant caldera, is a remarkable wildlife viewing area. Today, it’s dramatic, enclosed landscape is home to one of the densest populations of animals in Africa.

The crater itself can get busy, so staying in one of the properties perched close to the rim allows both early starts and late departures is a good idea. Besides exploring the crater itself there are lots of opportunities to walk in the surrounding highlands, visit tea plantations and take a trip to visit Olduvai Gorge. It’s a remarkable area and a worthy addition to any safari in Tanzania.
