Makgadikgadi Pans

Botswana’s Makgadikgadi Pans offer a complete contrast to much of the rest of the country. This shimmering white expanse sustains more life than apparent at first glance, with meerkats, San Bushmen and the occasional aardvark among those calling this ethereal place home.

When the rains come, the pans transform into a vibrant habitat attracting flamingos, zebra and wildebeest, along with associated predators. There are some stunning camps here, from the likes of the legendary Jack’s Camp to the more understated Camp Kalahari. Activities on offer include meerkat encounters, night drives, walking safaris, sleep outs and riding safaris. A few days here will provide a truly unique African experience.
