For off-the-beaten-track Kenya, the majestic Chyulu Hills are hard to beat. This range of heavily forested volcanic peaks drop away to vast open plains and spectacular views of distant Mount Kilimanjaro. The wildlife viewing amid this dramatic scenery is excellent, and with few safari camps in the area it can be enjoyed in glorious isolation.
Rather than gazetted as a national park, the Chyulus have remained under Masai ownership allowing indigenous people to continue to manage their wildlife and land whilst benefitting from tourism. It’s a lovely place to enjoy walking and riding safaris as well as traditional vehicle based activities.
