Cape Town : Four ways to Experience it Differently

Cape Town in South Africa, is often called ‘The Mother City’ is a vibrant and cosmopolitan town. With so much to see and do in the city it is possible to spend a week or more here in a trip and still not do it all, especially with the famed Winelands of South Africa only an hour or so away. For a different perspective of Cape Town we have rounded up just some four of the more unique ways to experience Cape Town.

Take to the Air

Anyone who has ever flown into Cape Town will have an idea of what a beautiful cityscape it offers; with Table Mountain in the middle and the different bays of the coast and with Robben Island as well, there is much to see. For a proper birds eye view of this city take a helicopter tour to see it properly from the air. With options for short 20 minute trips to longer full day tours of the region, perhaps taking in a vineyard and wine tasting as well, this is an incredible way of seeing the city and gives you a totally different perspective.

For those with a deep interest in something particular – such as the history or nature, an expert guide can be booked as well to travel with you to give you a deeper insight into the city. A sunrise or sunset trip is also particularly rewarding.

It’s all about the engine

The coastal roads of Cape Town have a James Bond feel to them; scenically beautiful with sweeping views and sheer cliffs. An ideal location to film a car chase, or take a trip in an AC Cobra. These cars, with their open tops and V8 engines, offer the chance to be able to have that ‘James Bond feeling’. Having just had a couple of hours in one, I can say from personal experience that it is a great way to see the city and certainly puts a smile on your face.

With options from a short self-drive trip for sundowners on Lions Head, to longer rentals of 24 hours, or a guided, chauffeured experience, there are numerous ways to experience this exhilarating car. The noise of the engine and the sports seats are a fun way to start or finish a day in Cape Town – and I’m not a petrol head!

A Full Day of Different Exploring

The coast of Cape Town is alive with possibilities and seeing the marine life from a different perspective. It is now possible to not only kayak with penguins, but also SUP with them as well. Or you could try your hand at surfing or snorkel with seals or through Cape Town’s underwater kelp forests. With wet-suits provided and expert guides on hand, there is no end to the possibilities.

Perhaps you prefer being on two wheels. Seeing Cape Town from a bike offers the chance to not only see more of the city, take in the views and get some exercise, but also gives you the opportunity to explore areas you may not otherwise see. With a  national cycling champion as your guide you can speed things up, but slowing down and encountering new cultures and getting a real taste of an authentic, local experience. Road or mountain bikes are available and all experience levels catered for with energy boosting pantry, bike friendly café, wine farms and restaurant stops all built in.

Take a 4×4 scooter down Table Mountain , hike wild beaches in Cape Point, have a picnic lunch, experience local cuisine and so much more. A day with a qualified guide will offer a tailored experience based on your interests, in Cape Town and in the surrounding area as well.

Motorbike and Sidecar

Explore the city, or further afield, in the sidecar of a chauffeur-driven vintage WW11 motorbike. With no age restrictions and all bikes taking two passengers (some take three), this is fun for all the family. Get kitted up in retro leather jackets, goggles and helmets to complete the look.

Relax as your driver guide takes you on your curated tour, which can last for a couple of hours or a full day, depending on your preference. It really is a fun way to experience Cape Town and its surrounds.
