Uganda

This stunning landlocked country has amazingly diverse landscapes with each view seemingly, and impossibly, better than the last.  Lush rainforests give way to savanna plains, and the great lakes, snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and waterfalls just add to the diversity. 

Home to around half of the world’s endangered mountain gorilla population, which is usually the big draw for a safari here, there is so much more to explore.  Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park offer wildlife viewing every bit as good as that found elsewhere in East Africa, with lion, elephant, leopard, hippo and plains game, including the Ugandan Kob antelope, all making this their home.  The birdlife is amazing with over 1,000 different species recorded, including the shoebill.

Activities are interesting and diverse and include tracking gorillas or chimpanzees, boat trips on the Nile or Kazinga Channel, game drives in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park, visiting local markets and towns, canoe trips on Lake Mutanda or to find the shoebill in Semliki.

As Uganda is an equatorial country there is a chance of rain throughout the year, but April and May are the wettest months, followed by November.  Combine a trip here with time in Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania or the Indian Ocean.
