Mahale National Park

Western Tanzania is properly off-the-beaten-track, and the Mahale Mountains are at the very end of that track. Greystoke Mahale, one of two safari camps here, sits on a Lake Tanganyika beach with the forested slopes of the Mahali Mountains rising behind. It’s an exquisite spot, perfect to both relax and enjoy tracking the chimps that live in the mountain hillsides.

The resident chimps have been studied by researchers for many years and simply get on with their lives on the forest floor as visitors look on. The guides know the traits and characteristics of all the individuals which adds to the overall experience. Dhow excursions, fishing and kayaking are among the other ways to explore this remote outpost.
