An easy four-hour drive north of Johannesburg, Madikwe Game Reserve sits on the border of South Africa and Botswana. It offers excellent wildlife viewing, complete with the Big 5, and its malaria free status makes it a very good choice for a family safari. With far fewer visitors than the more famous Kruger National Park there’s a good chance to enjoy wildlife sightings here in peaceful isolation. The varied landscape comprises rocky hills and mountains, open plains and bushveld, and is scattered with a number of excellent camps and lodges.
