Kaokoland

Kaokoland, Namibia’s northernmost region, is a little-explored gem of astonishing beauty. The Hartmann Valley is one of the most striking landscapes on the planet, while the Kunene River, which forms the border with Angola, is home to crocodiles and vibrant birdlife. The Himba tribe are at home in this extraordinary place, living as they have done for centuries, with their distinctive ochre-coloured skin and nomadic way of life.

A handful of desert-adapted species thrive here, including elephant, giraffe, zebra and oryx, all specially suited to life among the remote dunes. With only a small number of accommodation options, it is the perfect destination for a few days of truly off-the-beaten-track safari adventure.
