This large swathe of central Kenya that constitutes Laikipia is typified by rugged landscapes, open plains, views of Mount Kenya and few other people. Home to a collection of private reserves, therefore not bound by national park rules, there are plenty of safari activities on offer making it a particularly good choice for a family safari.
Alongside traditional game drives, visitors can enjoy riding safaris, mountain biking, camel riding, fishing, sleeping under the stars and visits to various conservation projects. The wildlife doesn’t disappoint either with rhino, elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe, and plenty of plains game all present.
There are some superb lodges, many of them owner-run, with something to suit all tastes and budgets.
